Springfield Foundation Collaborates with Wright State University in Support of STEM Education
The Springfield Foundation is pleased to partner with Wright STEPP (Science, Technology, and Engineering Preparatory Program) to expand this exciting learning opportunity to Springfield City School junior high/high school students. Operated by Wright State University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, Wright STEPP focuses on the development and education of youth underrepresented in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Participants are eligible to receive full tuition scholarships to Wright State University when they successfully complete four summers of program participation, and meet specified academic criteria in high school, including college preparatory courses.
The program has been successful in the Dayton Public School District since 1988, and the model was recently expanded to include Springfield City students, with the full support of Springfield City Schools Superintendent Dr. David Estrop, and is now preparing for its third year of operation.
The program provides students access to and interaction with relevant role models from industry and education who serve the program in the capacity of instructors, speakers, corporate site tour guides, counselors and mentors. Wright STEPP’s participating partners include Wright Patterson Air Force Base, local industry, and Dayton and Springfield school district personnel.
