Investment Philosophy PDF Print E-mail

The assets of the Springfield Foundation are invested in investment pools in order to obtain lower fees and to allow for diversification.  The overall goal is to obtain the highest total return with the least amount of risk.  To lower the risk, the Foundation diversifies the investments in each pool.  Diversification is achieved by purchasing different types of investments such as bonds and other fixed income instruments, stock, real estate and hedge funds.  In the stock area, investments are placed with companies having a large amount of stock outstanding (large cap) to companies having a small amount of stock outstanding (small cap).  Diversification in the stock area is also achieved by purchasing value types of stock along with growth stock and also international stocks.  The diversification allows certain areas of the investment pools to perform while other areas may not be performing as well at the same time.
