What is the difference between the Springfield Foundation and the Turner Foundation? PDF Print E-mail
The Turner Foundation is a private family foundation while the Springfield Foundation is a community foundation.  Private Foundations are typically created by businesses or a single wealthy individual or family.  Community Foundations are created by and for the community it serves.  Community Foundations are governed by a board of community members and provide funding for all aspects of the community.  A private foundation provides grants in the donor-family's area of interest.  Additionally, the tax deductions available to donors of community foundations are greater.
