D. Michael Harber II
A living legacy.
An active student at Greenon, Michael Harber had been involved through his childhood in baseball, soccer, basketball, band and his greatest love – football. He was also a member of the youth group at his church and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
In December 1995, Michael had recently turned 16 and was, like other teens, excited about learning to drive. On his first instruction class he slid on ice, hit a salt truck and was killed.
His parents, Chet and Judy Walthall, remember their son as a loving young man who looked forward to going to college and becoming a math teacher and a football coach. It was Chet and Judy’s hope that the scholarship fund they created in Michael’s memory would benefit many students in the years to follow and would keep his name alive in the hearts of many.
Michael’s legacy lives on today and to date has awarded 50 scholarships totaling nearly $59,000 to graduating seniors of Greenon High School since 1998.
