Judy Wile Kossoff Scholarship Fund
Honoring a life.
A graduate of The Ohio State University, Judy Wile Kossoff, taught English at Gahanna Lincoln High School, Catholic Central High School, and was a substitute teacher for more than twenty-five years in the Springfield City Schools. She was passionately committed to her students and her profession. Judy was a firm believer that "if something was worth doing, it was worth doing well." Whether through her career or volunteer service with the Junior Service League, Meals on Wheels or Temple Sholom, her passion and dedication inspired and impacted those around her in a positive way.
On November 20, 2007, Judy Wile Kossoff lost her brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Before she passed, she requested that her family and friends "pay forward" by making contributions to establish a scholarship fund in her memory at the Springfield Foundation. The Fund will provide scholarships to Springfield High School graduates attending a four-year Ohio public college or university. The students must major in English, Journalism, or English Education. To honor Judy's commitment to hard work and perseverance, the scholarship will be awarded after a student has completed his or her freshman year with a 3.0 GPA.
Throughout Judy's illness, she and her family maintained a website to keep family and friends updated on her condition. Her impact on others was apparent from the expression of support through the website and the unprecedented and overwhelming flow of memorial contributions made to the Judy Wile Kossoff Memorial Scholarship Fund. The response has been a fitting tribute to the life and memory of Judy. In the words of her family, "there was not a better way to honor her life than to create this scholarship fund."
