Scholarship Application & Materials PDF Print E-mail

The Springfield Foundation administers a variety of scholarships to assist Clark County residents in pursuing education beyond high school. Each scholarship targets students with different characteristics; for example, graduation from a particular high school, plans to attend a specific college or selection of a certain field of study.

Scholarship Materials

Basic Requirements

In addition to meeting the specific requirements of each scholarship, applicants must be a US citizen and:

1. enroll and complete a full-time program (12 or more hours) each quarter or semester in an
accredited institution of higher learning or post-secondary program unless otherwise noted in the
individual scholarship descriptions;
2. score at least 19 on their ACT unless otherwise noted in the individual scholarship descriptions;
3. have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 unless otherwise noted in the individual scholarship
descriptions.

Exception: graduates who have been out of high school for five or more years need not meet the last two requirements, but they must enroll full-time.

Selection Criteria
Unless noted otherwise, scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit (40%), financial need (40%), and character and other activities (20%). Personal interviews may be requested at the Foundation's discretion.

Scholarship Amount                                                                                                            The amount of a scholarship award depends on the particular scholarship. Provided income is sufficient, most renewable scholarships are awarded on the following scale: First Year - $1,250; Sophomore - $1,500; Junior -$1,750; and Senior - $2,000. However, scholarships currently range from $275. - $4,675. Scholarships must be applied toward tuition, books and other required fees; any other uses must be approved by the Foundation.

How to Apply
Applications are available from all Clark County high school guidance offices, the financial aid offices of local colleges and universities, and directly from the Foundation in January of each year. Scholarship materials must be delivered to the Foundation by March 15, 2007, 4:30 p.m. or must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2007. Final decisions are usually available in June and payments are sent to colleges in August. Award checks cannot be made payable to recipients.

Allocations During the Academic Year
If a scholarship award is $1,250 or a lesser amount, the entire amount will be applied to the first term of the academic year. At the same time, the Foundation will monitor the full-time enrollment of the recipient.  If scholarships are greater than $1,250, allocations are made in equal installments applied to each term of the academic year. At the end of each academic term, the Foundation will examine the university transcript for full-time enrollment (12+ credit hours), the cumulative GPA (2.75+), and the major field of study where applicable. Further allocations during the academic year are terminated if these criteria are not met at the end of each term..

Renewable Scholarships
Scholarships identified as renewable may be renewed provided the student continues to meet the scholarship's unique requirements, that the student has a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 (unless a different grade point average is noted in the individual scholarship description) and that enrollment is full-time (12 or more credit hours). Some scholarships are not automatically renewable, yet allow the recipient to re-apply in subsequent years. Scholarships for graduate level education are generally not awarded unless otherwise noted.
